Don't like being copied? Think about what to do when that happens.

Around me, there are many artists who create works using threads.

A topic that comes up occasionally is about imitation of works. Here, I would like to draw my attention not to legal issues, but to the "essential things" of how people think.

Personally, I'm the type who looks at someone's work superficially, thinks it's nice, and doesn't question the act of making it for my own enjoyment. If someone mentioned me and posted it on SNS, I would be a little proud, and I would be happy if I could discover something new that the atmosphere changes when someone makes it.

There are similar works and works that imitate, but I think that each individuality is overflowing. Not only the atmosphere of the work, but also how to take pictures, how to put light, background. From such a place, you can feel that person's unique "something".

This is how I think, through handmade things, everyone is different. I can't help but enjoy confirming that.

Because of this way of thinking, I could not deeply understand the feelings of those who dislike being imitated.

The other day, a knitting friend told me about the bitter experience of a person who made a piece that he didn't want other people to make, and made it by eye copy.

As I asked her a few questions, I finally understood why she didn't want me to make the same thing, and I was very satisfied!

I used to have the concept of knitting as "a practical thing with a nice design", but for her, the work is like art, where values and philosophy are incorporated into colors, shapes, and materials. It was a work.

After understanding her intentions, I was even more impressed with her work and authorship. At the same time, I felt frustrated that it was knitting rather than art because it used yarn and needles.

If this were contemporary art, I think I could easily understand the intention of "I don't want to be imitated only on the side", but my preconceptions about knitting created a situation where I couldn't understand immediately.

I always felt that even the same temari had a completely different meaning and purpose depending on who handled it.

Even if they deal with the same "knitting" or "handicraft", there are people who choose the act based on completely different concepts and philosophies. And to convey my thoughts, and to have a slightly different "normal" for each person. I thought it was necessary to be conscious of this kind of thing again.

It's not about not making wonderful works made by people for personal enjoyment, but if you think it's good, do it. As a result, if you say you don't like it, I'm sorry for the nasty feeling. Since you know that, you should consider it and change your future actions. The side of the communication is also to convey unpleasant things to people with different values, and keep a distance if they do not understand. I thought that such a feeling would be good seasoning.
